The 2012 Gold Wing continues its remarkable legacy. Its travel-oriented creds include the latest generation of sophisticated electronic amenities, starting with an updated and innovative GPS navigation system with user-friendly programmability for sharing favorite ride routes with friends and other riders, which can be accessed online via computer. The Gold Wing also now incorporates a built-in MP3/iPod interface for a new SRS CS Auto technology surround-sound system for a premium listening experience.
In addition to its renowned power-laden yet refined drivetrain and delightfully sporty handling, the 2012 Gold Wing also brings upgraded styling, increased luggage capacity, greater protection from wind and weather, revised suspension settings for enhanced ride compliance, and unparalleled comfort for both rider and passenger. In addition, packages for Navi, ABS and airbag do much to further the Gold Wing’s reputation as the most celebrated touring machine in motorcycle history.
The all new Gold Wing also has streamlined styling and improved aerodynamics to help with long tours. The seats have been modified for better support and wrap around the rider and pilon passenger for improved comfort. The front end of the Wing was modified to provide better wind protection in the foot area of both the rider and passenger. In the rear the tail section Honda adopted a new rear fender shape with a negative pressure adjustment air outlet to handle the negative pressure at the rear of the vehicle during riding, Honda reduced the negative pressure region that forms at the rear during riding, increasing riding stability.
The frame incorporates the engine itself as a stressed member, and achieves the optimal balance between rigidity and flexibility with the adoption of lightweight multi box section aluminum twin tubes. The frame layout, taking riding position into full consideration, realizes nimble operability unexpected for a large-displacement bike and comfortable ride feel.
Moreover, the frame unites suppleness and rigidity at a high level while fulfilling basic riding functions such as a sportiness allowing the rider to feel firsthand the basic joy of running, a comfortable ride feel allowing the passenger to feel relaxed, the optimal body size, dimensions and riding position.
The front suspension is a 45-mm diameter, cartridge telescopic fork, adopting an anti-dive mechanism activated when applying the brakes, and ensures even more comfortable operability in all ranges. The rear suspension adopts the Pro-Arm single-side swingarm, with its superior maintainability, in combination with Pro-Link. Equipped with a two-position memory function, the computer-controlled, electric hydraulic-type adjustable suspension allows for quick adjustment depending on whether one or two people are riding. Also included as standard is Honda’s leading linked ABS braking technology allowing you to ride on any road surface or condition.
The engine maintains exceptional power due to the large 1800 cc displacement, and the smooth riding characteristic of a horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine. The PGM-FI electronically controlled fuel injection device brings about quick response performance covering all rpm ranges and smooth output characteristics. The power output of the 1800cc engine knocks the socks off the emissions standards set forth by both Europe and the US and in some places halving the required emissions all while maintaining performance.
