The rumor mill is circulating that the Ten Kate Honda World Supersport team could have been using an engine aid. It seems that thanks to an electric pump inserted in the engine casing, the Dutch team managed to get a few more horses from the core engine of the Honda CBR600RR.
Taking nothing away by the excellent riding and results from this fantastic team, but perhaps they recieved a little help to achieve their goals.
The kit in question is a widely available part for the Honda but, according to rules and regulations is illegal to use. If during a inspection this pump was found it would lead to an immediate disqualification. It seems an inspection found the pump hidden behind the engine casing performed by WSBK insepector Fabio Fazio.
The component was an outlawed electric pump which inhales the exhaust gases creating a kind of vacuum. It seems that this device is available on the market in the Anglo-Saxon kit, and depending on which of the bike it is used could give some advantage.
In 600 World Superstock a few horse power is very important. When you are at the limit in this category more
hosepower can move you up the grid significantly. Now we’ll see if the CBR 600RR Ten Kate Honda will return to earth in Valencia or if this electric pump dind’t actually provide an advantage over the other teams.
